Fascinating, Ruth. Alas, the plates remain out of stock in my area, so I may be ordering one. The price is only slightly less here. Iām making note of your tips!
I must say that your ink drawing is really superb and Iād love to see more pen and ink work. Your characters, feline and otherwise, are absolutely brimming with personality and that comes through very strongly in this particular piece. ā¤ļø
Thank you so much, Les. I ordered mine online too. I think smaller ones might be easier to handle so next time I have enough šø I might try that, not sure. I finally dared to get the green Fude fountain pen everyone has. Itās very fun. I often feel like I prefer illustrations by otheres with hardly any lines and try to learn to get better at that but sometimesnit overcomes me. Canāt wait for inktoberā¦ If you get around to printing you have to let me know!
I am still getting used to it. I feel it is more versatile than my usual calligraphy fountain pens. Those are either thick or thin lines. The fude offers different angles? What I donāt like about it is that it is a bit bigger than a usual fountain pen but I guess most artists like this about their tools. (Whereas I tend to saw off all my brushesā¦) Maybe there are better ones out there but I went with the one all the urban sketchers seem to have.
Oh, that is nice. I felt I might say lots of things everybody already knows except me. I recommend watching a few YT videos then because to be honest most people seem to use them quite differently. I think the crafty people love gel printing mostly for the magic image transfers you can do. I am more interested in the monotype things you can do without a printing pressā¦
So interesting! Thank you Ruth for sharing all these various attempts and learnings. As you know, I haven't tried yet (it's like the newsletter!!). But if I decide to try, I'll join your group :)
Love your cat illustration. I think he's looking at the birds eating on the neighbours'balcony (This is what my cat do at home. Windows need to remain shut - especially because we live on the 4th floor!).
Do they make the typical kekekekekeke sounds while birding? And have you tried the youtube channel for cats where they only show birds and squirrelsā¦ some really love that.
I am still enjoying the printing very much. So many possibilities to explore. It is the filming that is a bit trickyā¦ wish I had a better camera or more storage on my phone. One can dreamā¦

Would you recommend the Fude pen? What do you like about it?

Thanks, Ruth. Iāll put it on the list.
It was on mine probably for well over three years š¤
I had no idea what a gelli print was until now. My interest is very much piqued š¤

Awesome process, and the soundtrack is perfect for it! šš
Thank you for watching. Wasnāt so easy to pick a public domain song. I need a composer friend!
